My background has shaped a lot of my interests and consequently how I wanted to experiment with my portfolio. It is very exploratory in nature and covers many details that I’ve gathered over the course of my concentration in Digital Studies. I’ve tried to document more of the processes (and people or resources who/which have helped me) in creating the work featured here.
Language: I’ve been interested in English-Spanish translation, and was fortunate to take an online introductory course. I consulted Linguee and Spanish-English dictionaries online to inform my translations. The plan is to have the general pages in my portfolio website as well as some of the Storymap/GIS projects pertaining to topics directly related to Mexico translated to Spanish, since I admire the efforts that digital scholars carry out to increase access to non-English sources and audiences. However, Spanish still is considered to be a dominant language in many countries, so there are some drawbacks to focusing on only these bigger languages.
Art: Art has also been a constant and longtime interest of mine. I’ve mainly experimented with ProCreate for digital art, with some handmade drawings and prints from my printmaking class sprinkled in. Timelapses and rough inspirations are included. I’m interested in learning some other aspects in ProCreate such as animation, 3D drawing, and creating my own brushes. I’m interested in trying out Glaze and/or Nightshade (created by University of Chicago’s The Glaze Project) for anti-AI art purposes. While I am not explicitly against all types of generative AI, I do see more value in the work of human creatives, especially for art. I plan to have alternative text added to the images for accessibility.
